HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0504sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have seen many people complaining of this online and I have tried many things to make this work but wit no luck

My HP Envy x360 13 (ay)  simply will not rotate the screen  to use in any mode other than usual laptop. The ability to act as a tablet is why I bought the device.

It has been repaired (twice!) due to engineering or manufacturing faults with the hinge and the screen has had to be replaced as a result so I am concerned that the repair centre (Currys in the UK) may have left out the sensor board if it is in the dispaly bezel

however, when I run Microsoft's  SensorExplorer it comes up with 8 sensors.. none of which are showing any data at all. They all just say zero

I need to understand
1) are the sensors installed correctly? (in particular rotation but they all need to work).. if not then the device will have to go back yet again
2) if so are the drivers installed correctly (there are no errors in device manager. I have removed the AMD UMDP sensor driver under the sensors category and had windows scan for hardware changes to put it back... no improvement)
3) if both are in place correctly why am I getting no data and rotation is not working?

NB. the rotation lock button is present in the system tray and can be toggled off and on but does nothing
I tried to install updated AMD radeon drivers as there is some indication online that that might help but windows reverts to its own drivers so the installer fails.
Keyboard screen rotation hot keys do not do anything so I don't have a workaraound
UEFI firmware is up to date

Could someone please tell where where to go next?  In particular I want to know if the sensors are actually there (would the driver say they are if the hardware was missing?  could it be a cable issue?
I really don't want to send this back yet again as I already have "trust issues" with this laptop!

well, I got zero help from HP but that appears to be business as usual

for those that may have similar issues I just wanted to post to say that the retailer who repaired the laptop says there was a cable issue and that the cable connection was repeated and it seems to be working so far. I am not necessarily convinced given it was the third time the laptop has been sent back within 2 months and while I am appreciative they  acknowledged and repaired the broken hinge and screen issue when HP wouldn't, the fact they took three tries at it and left parts out each time does not fill me with hope for reliability of what should be a good product but has been let down by engineering, manufacturing, support and retail

there still appears to be an issue with rotation when waking from sleep but this remains unaddressed by HP
...  this is my last HP (got my first one in 1986)
