HP Recommended

Hello...!  My hp laptop is admittedly a few years old, but my problem is with the mousepad.  I'm trying to do something fairly important, but whenever my finger is on the mousepad, the cursor's movements become erratic and imprecise-  Is there anyone that knows if there's anything I can do to fix this...?
