Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello Fellow HP Community Members,

I have been struggling to find a solution to a problem which I didn't see coming when i bought a second monitor to extend my Laptop Display. The HP Elitebook has only one HDMI port and I thought the HDMI splitter would help solve the problem of trying to extend this display over to two different monitor screens, but it did not work.

How do I extend my laptop screen (with extend being the key word, not mirror or replicate) out of one HDMI port that I have?

Thank you.

No, the HDMI splitter gives you duplicate screens, not extent because both screens come from one source.

Your machine has USB Type-C (Thunderbolt) port. You can use that port to connect to more than one monitor using daisy chain.

On my Elitebook 840 G5 machine (has same ports of the 850 G5), I actually use  USB 3.1 Gen 1 port (which is type A) to connect to an old (7 years old) DiaplayLink Certified USB-A dock (sorry I can't find its model anywhere, only DisplayLink Certified sticker at its right, few ports at the front and few ports at its back including two monitor ports)

Regards.

Thanks Banhien.

Not sure what you mean by daisy chaining though - which multiple adaptors would do it? I searched around for a few Thunderbold/ USB C type to HDMI but none of them seem to have multiple HDMI ports. So I guess you might be suggesting that I need to use USB port perhaps on one of them or perhaps one which has another USB C type port on it and daisy chain another adapter to it. Wouldn't be neat or cheap either but perhaps the only solution. Two of these perhaps - https://www.getdget.com.au/8-in-1-type-c-hub-adapter-docking-station.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuZqXhuWp...

Forgot to mention though, my other display is legacy one with VGA port as well as HDMI. I assume something like this - https://www.catch.com.au/product/2-in-1-usb-type-c-usb-c-to-female-hub-hdmi-vga-cable-display-adapte...can work then?
