I was recently gifted an external display that only has a USB c input (power and video). Since my notebook has an external USB-C port that is data transfer only (does not appear to support video output), would purchasing an adapter to go from another external port (USB or HDMI) to USB-C likely work? If so, which of my external ports should I use for this adapter to USB-C?
The external display is an ASUS ZenScreen MB166C
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You will need HDMI to USB-C and the adapter will need to provide enough power.
Check the following both the specs to see the power and also the reviews

This one also but scroll down about 1/4 way to "Compare with similar items" and ignore the HDMI to DP cables.
