Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!

My Windows HP 11 OmniBook 5 screen is 1920 x 1200.  My HP 2509m monitor is 1920 x 1080.  When connected to my Windows 10 HP Laptop and I set display resolution to 1920 x 1080 it sizes and fills the HP 2509m monitor as it should.  When I do the same on my Windows 11 OmniBook, it "over sizes" the HP 2509m in that the tool bar at the bottom only shows about the top half, and the other 3 sides are also oversized about the same so left & right sides are cut off as is the top.   I have spent hours on the phone with HP support to no avail.  Each time I talk to someone (including the AI Assistant), they go through the same things and then can't get it to work.  They then advise they will transfer me to someone else as it could be a hardware issue on my new laptop and when they transfer me, they disconnect me which leads to hours of wait time when I try to call back.  Hoping someone out there in the community can help me figure this out.  Thank you.

Hi @TOMPIC,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the display sizing issue between your HP OmniBook 5 running Windows 11 and your HP 2509m monitor, follow these steps.

Check Display Scaling Settings:

  • Open Settings > System > Display on your Windows 11 OmniBook.
  • Under "Scale and layout," check the scaling percentage. Ensure it is set to 100% for the most accurate representation of the display.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can do this by visiting the HP Support website or using the device manager to search for updated drivers automatically.

Adjust Display Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Ensure that the HP 2509m monitor is set as the external display and that the resolution is correctly set to 1920 x 1080.
  • If you have an option for "Display orientation," ensure it's set to Landscape.

Check Monitor Settings:

  • Use the physical menu buttons on the HP 2509m to bring up its on-screen display (OSD) menu.
  • Check for any aspect ratio settings or options that might be causing the display to oversize, such as "Overscan" or "Scaling." Reset these settings to default or to "Auto."

Change Connection Ports/Cables:

  • If you are using HDMI, try another HDMI port or a different HDMI cable to rule out any issues with the port or cable itself.

Reset Monitor Settings:

  • On the HP 2509m monitor, try resetting the settings to factory defaults using the OSD menu.

Enable/Disable HDMI Scaling:

  • Some graphics cards have settings related to HDMI scaling. Check your graphics card control panel for scaling options and adjust as necessary.

By following these steps, you should be able to correct the display sizing on your HP OmniBook 5 with your HP 2509m monitor.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
