External Monitor not recognized through the HP docking station for my HP Spectre x360

HP Spectre x360 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am just setting up my computer attached to an HP thuderbolt docking station 120W.  My external monitor is not being recognized at all.  I have a display port (not usb c) cable going from docking station to the HDMI port in the monitor.  Even when I make sure the blue on light for the monitor is on the computer is not recognizing the monitor.  What do I need to do???
