This could be an issue with the docking station. I recommend you to contact the HP Support Team regarding this.

Thanks for your assistance so far. I have tried to resolve this with HP support but it would seem a different person is responding each time we have a conversation and progress is so slow and to date they have not been able to provide a solution. Are you able to advise if it is possible to have HP support on the phone?
Also, are you able to confirm what a sales rep in the store that sells HP told me - that this laptop will not support a monitor connected to the HDMI port and one connected via the USB C port via a docking station, i.e. it will not support two external monitors?

Hi and thanks for responding. The link goes to a page not found. Did you want to send an updated one?
Also, do you have a suggestion for how best to get to speak to someone about this issue. It is a new laptop so I'm very disappointed that already it cannot do what was expected. I'm hoping it will simply be a setting or an update issue but I really do need technical support.
