I've just started having this problem this week. There was a system update when I connected after 6 weeks of working remotely, then the monitor Dell u2720q stopped working via the usb-c on this 1040 G6 Elitebook.

 

The u2720q monitor at home still works on a macbook air through USB C, and it works from this laptop via HDMI.

The dell 24" display at my office still works on the USB-C from this 1040 G6 laptop.

 

I want the one cable solution to work.

 

Maybe interestingly, the sound got mucked up at the same time. I can no longer use my separate speakers on conference calls anymore because they now cause feedback for other people even though they didn't before the update this week.
