Pavilion Laptop - 15z High performance
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

Hopefully someone can help me out here. Bought a  Pavilion laptop - 15z High performance  a couple of months back because my then current laptop was to old and having trouble keeping up with my games. The issue I'm having now is that pretty sure my old laptop runs games better then this laptop. Ive set all settings for graphics to their lowest setting and still only get 13 to 20 fps avg. I've also when thru and made sure all drivers were up to date and windows 10 is also up to date. Hopefully its something I'm missing and not that I just wasted 700 on a high performance paperweight.

Hi @Aarron

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the FPS issue.

There are many ways to increase FPS and system performance:

Update the BIOS -

Please try these steps - HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS

Update the graphics driver -

Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, enter your PC model, then select the driver for your graphics card.

  • Most games allow you to change the graphics settings. Using a lower graphic quality often improves FPS.
  • Close any applications or programs that are not being used.
  • Turn on Game Mode. Game Mode is a new feature in Windows 10 Creators Update that improves gaming performance by limiting background processes and programs from using system resources while a game is running.
  1. Press the Windows key and G to open the Game bar.
  2. In the game bar, click Settings.
  3. Click the check box next to the game title to enable Game Mode for that game.
  4. Plug notebook PCs into an AC adapter to give the graphics card more power.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I tried all the recommended step and the only thing that changed was now my sound going in and out on my games. I reset windows and that fixed the sound issue, but the fps issue is still there, even for a game as low impact as Terraria. I'm starting to think that maybe the GPU is defective considering I've seen videos of people using the same GPU, playing graphic intense games on medium settings, and still managing 35 to 40 fps.

Appreciate you trying the steps @Aarron

I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding this issue.

Thanks!
