HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-dk0047tx
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have  HP Pavilion Gaming -15 dk0047tx. a few days Since while gaming, the FPS drops to almost 10 whenever I am charging this laptop. Problem still persists when battery is removed and laptop is only being powered by AC adapter. When unplugged and powered by battery, FPS in games stays constant good and gives better fps respectively.

i tried updating the Bios but it still persist, even updated my graphic drivers.

Hi @Priyanshu709

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the issue so clearly—it’s genuinely frustrating when performance drops during charging, especially on a gaming laptop that should thrive under load.

This behavior is often linked to power management settings or thermal/power delivery constraints while on AC power.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve your issue:

Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up-to-date. You can do this by visiting the HP Drivers and Downloads page or the manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA or AMD).

Check Power Settings:

  • Navigate to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Ensure your power plan is set to High Performance. Sometimes, the Balanced or Power Saver plans can reduce performance to save energy.
  • Check advanced power settings and ensure that the graphics settings under "Plugged In" are set to maximum performance.

Thermal Management and System Vitals: Utilize the OMEN Command Center (or similar software provided by HP) to monitor system vitals such as CPU and GPU temperatures and usage. Sometimes, overheating can cause throttling, and managing temperatures effectively can prevent performance drops. OMEN Command Center Video

Disable Battery Monitoring Software: Some battery monitoring tools or OEM utilities might interfere with performance. Check if any battery management tools are running and disable them.

Check Power Supply: Verify if your AC adapter and charging port are functioning correctly. A faulty charger or port might cause fluctuations in power delivery leading to performance drops.

BIOS Settings: Double-check BIOS settings for any options related to power management or thermal throttling. Ensure no settings enforce CPU or GPU throttling when on AC power.

Clean the Laptop: Dust and dirt in vents can cause overheating. Clean the vents and ensure unobstructed airflow.

Run Diagnostics: Run HP’s built-in system diagnostics to check for any hardware issues. This can be accessed through the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows app.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
