Hello, my HP Notebook 15 laptop was attacked by few ants more than an year ago, and they ate sensitive parts like the rubber under the keyboard. I thought that was it, so I had the keyboard replaced. But then, after few months, the display brightness remained consistent and it wasn't responding to the brightness adjustment keys or the brightness bar in the settings. I thought it was the driver problem, so I updated the drivers to the newest version, but it didn't fix. Now a month back, the brightness of the screen went altogether, but with the screen still being visible if lighted upon with the help of a flashlight. I removed the display frame, and realized that the ants have ate the outer cloth like insulation of the Lcd cable, leaving the minute wires inside to be exposed. This caused a loose connection and I presumably think this the problem. My question is, how can I get the lcd cable replaced, and where can I find a compatible lcd cable online ? I'm in India, and P.S. that the model number is 15-r101nx. Please provide the link or tutorials, if any, thanks in advance !

The Manual IS the tutorial but here is a video on getting to the back of the screen panel:

This shows getting inside the chassis to disconnect the non-screen end of the cable so you can replace it with a new one.

Short of flying to your house and doing the repair I am not sure what more I can provide.

Please accept as solution if you are good now.

In this video I'll show you how to disassemble take apart an HP 15 laptop with Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows 10. This will work with any of the model numbers below. Unfortunately I discovered the RAM is actually placed on the bottom of the motherboard logicboard. You have to take apart the ...

Part you need:

Display cable (includes display panel cable and webcam/microphone cable) Non-touch screen 749646-001

Service Manual:

Manual

See pages 49-52 and 77-84 as far as replacing the VGA cable.

I would jump on the eBay part listed above as the only other one for sale is 4 times as expensive.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the answer you needed.

Hello, I received the cable today and I replaced it. After I switched on for testing, the display just changed it's no-power colour to a full black which is not noticable from the normal view, but can be noticed from a side. It just goes to a black without any brightness or anything, and from the normal view it seems like nothing is happening. I'm sure I perfectly plugged the both ends to its respective ports , but it's simply not showing up. I'm sure no other complaint was there, as when the previous display cable was moved a little, I mean, touching with a small screw driver at where the insulation was gone, the display showed everything perfectly for a blink of time, whenever I touched that part.
What should I do ?
