Welcome to the HP Community --

Based on my experience, these little square box sensors can be finicky.

Maintenance and Service Guide

Pages 10-11

If the middle is clean, check the inside edges - clean and brush out with a fine, soft brush.

If the middle and the edges are clean, try cleaning with something that won't leave a residue.

If the sensor is clean and shiny, it is possible it is faulty in some way -- this is uncommon but I think it can surely happen.

If the sensor is failing, there is no driver fix.

If the sensor is clean and shiny and simply won't pick up your fingerprint,

try slightly dampening your finger tip - for example, use a tiny bit of hand lotion to improve the print surface.

Make sure you have an alternative sign-in method ready that works.

PINs are nice and the old standard, Windows Password, are both good fallbacks.
