HP Pavilion dv6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HI,

My harddisk crashed and had to change my harddisk. After getting new harddisk and Win 10, I am unable to use fringerprint reader.

It says Fingerprint reader is not detected.

In HP Simplepass it shows:

I have also tried to update the drivers and below is what I see in device manager and Add/remove programs.

I have tried installing fresh Win 10 and also tried installing Win 7 first and then upgrading to Win 10. Neither worked for me. Before harddisk crash, it used to work.

Any help to get it fixed is much appreciated.

Thank you @Jaxon_john for you help but HP support Assistant was much complicated to use than I thought.

I got it resolved by downloading Win 7 drivers and set the compatability to Win 8 and then installed it and then boomed, it started working.

Hope HP should have put a driver for Win 10 in first place itself.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand your fingerprint reader isn't working anymore,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you attempt to install the install the latest drivers for your Windows 10 OS using the HP website?

While you respond to that, I recommend you try the below steps:

Install the HP Simple Pass Identity Protection Software for Windows 10:  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71729.exe

If the issue persists, Please Click here to download the most viable driver for Windows 10  fingerprint reader (if need be) & if your Simple Pass Software isn't working:

Click here to download a different version of the same software.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hi @Riddle_Decipher

Thank you for your reply.

I tried to get the latest drivers from hp but couldnot locate for my product number (ww142av) as it only shows Win 7 not Win 10.

I tried to install the drivers you suggested but with no luck. I had even tried some other drivers like: (got these from various forums)

sp43882

sp50048

sp63224

sp71729

sp72114

sp72143

Not sure what is missing on this machine.

Thank you once again for looking intothis issue.

Hi,

If you have HP support Assistant tool, I suggest you to loauch the application and update the drivers directly from it. You need not update it manually. If you dont have HP support Assistant, its better to download from the website.
