HP Pavilion x360 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So a few days ago I got the HP Pavilion x360 Convertible. When I first set it up the fingerprint reader worked perfectly, but recently it's stopped working and doesn't do anything when I put my finger on the scanner. I have to sign in with my pin. I've tried going to Device Manager > Biometric Devices > Fingerprint Reader, and it says "This device is working properly". Also, if I try and add another fingerprint it doesn't do anything either. I'd appreciate any suggestions! Thank you!

Edits - Add "how to" information

It is likely that Windows updated itself to Windows 10 Version 1909 and that the fingerprint sensor driver is not supported in this version of Windows.

A new fingerprint driver might be required.

The check does require the exact model of your computer (not provided in your post).

What Happened?

In General, Windows 1909 has either allowed things to keep working as expected or it has created havoc in various drivers, for example, those used for the fingerprint reader.

What to do?

Ask us to check - exact model information needed for the check.

OR

If the issue is considered to be "alert" worthy (by HP), you can simply wait to be notified.

Use other means to log into  your computer (Password, PIN, Picture Password - model dependent)

OR

Log into your Support Website for the computer and look for a new driver.

Check for Bulletins and Notices information at your computer's support website

Open Support Home

Enter the name of your device

When the website support page opens, select Category Bulletins and Notices (wording may vary)

Check for an Updated Driver

Open Support Home

Enter the name of your device

Open Category Software, Drivers and Firmware

Click Open all

OR

Open Category Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices

Look for a driver related to the fingerprint reader - most of the time the name of the driver is easy to recognise.

Click to open that Driver

Click to "See full details"

Open Topic "Associated files"

Click the little blue "Download" button

The file does not actually download anything - instead it opens the description file for the update.

Read the file to glean important information.
