Hi everyone, I just got the HP Specter x360 14'' 2-in-1 Laptop - 14-eu0004nb (Belgium) today, everything was fine but the screen keeps flickering (mostly red vertical line) every few minutes.
I tried to :
Disabled Variable Refresh Rate
Reduced refresh rate to 48Hz
Update all possible BIOS/Intel graphic driver
And none of them are working. Do anyone is facing this problem? I know it is better for me to **bleep** to solve the problem/return, but they work from next Monday, so I just try to look for other possible solutions.

Hi @Cy35,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear about the issues with your new HP Specter x360 14'' laptop. Flickering lines on a screen can be frustrating, but here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try before contacting support on Monday.
Check for Hardware Issues
- Cable Connections: If you feel comfortable opening the laptop, check the internal cable connections between the screen and the motherboard. Sometimes a loose cable can cause screen flickering.
- External Monitor: Connect your laptop to an external monitor. If the external monitor displays correctly, the issue might be with the laptop’s screen rather than the graphics card.
Update or Rollback Drivers
- Update Graphics Drivers: Even though you've updated the drivers, ensure you have the latest ones directly from the Intel website or HP’s support page.
- Rollback Drivers: If the latest driver is causing the issue, try rolling back to a previous version to see if that resolves the problem.
Change Power Settings
- Power Plan Settings: Go to Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings. Look for settings related to the graphics card and ensure they are set to maximum performance, especially when plugged in.
- Disable Panel Self-Refresh: This is specific to Intel graphics. Open Intel Graphics Command Center -> System -> Power. Disable "Panel Self-Refresh".
Adjust Graphics Settings
- Intel Graphics Command Center: Adjust various settings under Display and Video sections. Experiment with disabling/enabling features like "Adaptive Contrast Enhancement" or "Power Saving Features".
Check for Windows Updates
- Windows Update: Ensure your Windows operating system is fully updated. Sometimes updates can resolve compatibility issues with hardware.
Run Hardware Diagnostics
- HP PC Hardware Diagnostics: Use the built-in HP diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues. You can access this by pressing F2 during boot to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.
Safe Mode
- Boot in Safe Mode: See if the issue persists in Safe Mode. This can help determine if the problem is related to third-party software or drivers.
BIOS Settings
- Reset BIOS: Sometimes resetting the BIOS to default settings can resolve hardware conflicts. Enter the BIOS during startup (usually by pressing F10) and select the option to reset to default settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
