I am having difficulty understanding how the updating of HP drivers works. I am looking at the HP Spectre 15-ch0xx (which is a high end laptop that was released 2 - 3 years ago).

This unit has 2 graphics chips, and the drivers available at the HP drivers link above are the ones that were released at the time the unit was released (from 2019). Both the Intel® HD Graphics 630 drivers & AMD Radeon RX VEGA M Drivers have been updated many times since (by the respective manufacturers).
There are 2 update utilitys (1 from Intel & 1 from AMD Radeon) that came with the system, and neither will update the graphics drivers. They will show that newer drivers are available, and that is it - presumably this is because the manufacturers produce the reference drivers, and HP as the OEM, are then meant to customize these for each specific HP model or range.
So, is the graphic driver update strategy for HP systems to wait until HP releases updated drivers (which doesnt actually happen), or try to manually update drivers directly from the graphic adaptor manufacturers?

So based on other feedback posted by HP Notebook users, it would appear that HP rarely update their video drivers, which is most disappointing (and unexpected when you purchase a top of the line notebook from a major manufacturer).
There have been no video driver updates provided by Windows update for this particular notebook.
Further reading suggests that the drivers from the respective manufacturers can be manually installed.

However, it has also been noted that if your notebook has a switchable graphics configuration, updating the Intel graphics driver should be done at your own risk (i.e. people are experiencing issues when manually installing video drivers).
