Microsoft Windows 11

Few days back I updated my hp envy x360 laptop to windows 11 and now there are horizontal white lines with flickers and the screen is faded

I tried to restart and reset to default but its still the same and they keep changing colours all the time

If I open a purple tab the color stays on the screen same with white

Hi @Nazimgsk

Welcome to the HP support community.

Thanks for reaching out! Sorry to hear about the screen issues after your Windows 11 update. It sounds like there’s a graphics-related glitch causing the flickering and color retention. I can imagine it’s pretty frustrating, especially with such a cool car wallpaper on your screen!

Let’s get this sorted out. Feel free to follow up if the issue persists, and we’ll help you through it!

Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Update Graphics Drivers

The most common cause of display issues after an OS upgrade is outdated or incompatible graphics drivers.

Automatically Update Graphics Drivers:

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Display adapters section.
  3. Right-click your graphics card (e.g., Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA) and choose Update driver.
  4. Select Search automatically for updated driver software and let Windows find and install the latest driver.

Manually Update Drivers:

  • Go to the HP Support Website and check for any driver updates for your model, especially the graphics drivers (Intel or AMD depending on your laptop).
  • You can also visit the Intel or AMD website to download the latest drivers for your specific graphics card.

Reinstall the Graphics Driver:

  • Sometimes, it's better to uninstall and reinstall the driver to clear up any corruption.
  1. In Device Manager, right-click the graphics driver and select Uninstall device.
  2. Restart your laptop.
  3. Windows should automatically reinstall the graphics driver. If not, you can manually download and install the latest driver from HP or Intel/AMD.

2. Check for Windows 11 Updates

Ensure your Windows 11 installation is fully updated, as Microsoft frequently releases fixes for graphical issues post-upgrade.

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates.
  • Install any available updates and restart your laptop.

3. Adjust Display Settings

Sometimes, incorrect display settings or settings related to color profiles can cause issues after an upgrade.

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Check the Display Resolution to make sure it’s set to the native resolution of your screen (e.g., 1920x1080 for full HD displays).
  • Scroll down to Advanced display settings, and make sure the Refresh rate is set to the optimal value (typically 60Hz for most laptops).
  • Try turning off Hardware Acceleration in certain applications (e.g., browsers, video players) to see if that resolves the issue.

4. Run the Windows 11 Troubleshooter

  • Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Run the Display adapter troubleshooter to detect any potential issues with your display or graphics drivers.

5. Check for Hardware Issues

If the problem persists after updating the drivers and Windows, it’s possible the issue is related to the hardware (e.g., the screen, GPU, or cables). Here are a few ways to rule that out:

  • External Monitor Test: Connect your laptop to an external monitor. If the issue doesn’t appear on the external display, it’s likely a problem with the laptop's screen (such as the LCD or LCD connector).
