HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Every time i use the touch screen, whether switching to tablet mode or just using it in regular laptop mode, after touching the screen i can no longer use the mouse pad.  I have to restart the computer to be able to use the mouse pad again.  I have checked settings and control panels and cannot figure out how to fix the issue.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I understand that you have an HP Envy series laptop. I read that the touchpad stops working if the touchscreen is used. To make the touchpad work, you need to restart the laptop. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Please let me know the exact laptop model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Did any software changes or updates happen recently on the laptop?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Device Manager

  • Expand "mice and other pointing devices". Right click on the touchpad drivers in it and select uninstall.
  • Close the device manager.
  • Please download and install the latest touchpad drivers from this link.

If the issue persists then here are some steps that may help you disable Tablet Mode and return to the Normal view:

  • Click or tap the Start button
  • Launch the Settings app
  • Click or tap on "System"
  • In the left pane of the screen, scroll down to the bottom until you see "Tablet Mode"
  • Verify that the toggle is set to off.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂
