Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

Laptop is half a year old and is starting to exhibit screen issues. See picture below.

Can anybody give me a clue as where to look for solutions? Laptop is still under warranty, so if this is likely a warranty issue, I can obviously go that route.

The vertical numbers seem to be unaffected. The horizontal letters clearly have an issue. It happens with different programs.IMG-20201016-WA0002 - kopie.jpgIs it Word or Mord?Is it Word or Mord?

Welcome to the HP support community.

Try connecting an external monitor and check if that works fine?

Meanwhile:-

Update the Bios, chipset and display drivers using HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you for your reply.

An external monitor seems to not have the issue, but the issue also seems to get much less or even disappear once an external monitor is used.

I think the HP assistant is running, so I think everything should be up to date, but I will check. I'll probably have to do this remotely (laptop is 250km away, but a second identical one sits next to me and does not have the issue).

And while I mean no disrespect, why is the advice ALWAYS to update all drivers when an issue appears on a system that has been fine for months/years.

I would find it more logical to ROLL BACK drivers when an issue suddenly appears, as the system was working fine and something changed to stop it from working fine.

I will report back.

If issue doesn't occur on external monitor, it's an LCD failure on the laptop.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that helps.
