Hi,

My new laptop seems to totally ignore light shades of grey, and it shows them as white. I made 2 arrows for the greys that I am talking about. When the NIGHT LIGHT setting is ON, I can barely see those those grays, but when it's off, I can't even see the grey shape from the top left corner under the word Listy, it looks completely white. Is the display a joke meant for designers, or is it a standard? I can clearly see those greys on my desktop, my old laptop, my phones, and I tested on some of my friend's laptops and they all show these greys. Is there a fix to this?

Thanks,

Chris

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

After reading your post, I did go through the Product specifications of your product and found that you have 43.9 cm (17.3") diagonal FHD IPS anti-glare WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080) installed on the PC.

  • Have you updated Graphics and Chipset drivers?
  • Have you checked the display on an external monitor

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: ( do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating )

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open the HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

Yes I did, same thing. I had to play with the AMD Radeon color settings to make it work.

However.

Normally, that shade of grey should have been visible with factory settings. Anyway, you lost me as a client with this laptop, too many issues, from weird sounds of the fan, to the ethernet port behaving weird, to the keyboard letters starting to fade away after only 2 months of using.

Weirdly enough, after jiggling it a bit the first two issues got fixed somehow, which makes me even more skeptical of the quality of HP products.

I have wayy to much work to do, I can't afford to send the laptop to the service. I'll just use this until I get a new one. I'm not saying it's a bad laptop, but there are details that will make me as a customer choose something else. The left CTRL is barely visible, and I've only had it for 2 months, it's ridiculous. Just saying, it cost 1000 bucks, for this price range, this shouldn't happen. My old laptop cost half, and all the keys are still perfectly visible, and I got it 5 years ago.
