Hi:
I use a HP monitor connected via an HDMI cable to my HP Envy 17m laptop for about 3 years now. Yesterday, randomly, my computer stopped detecting the additional display. I power cycled both devices, checked the cord, tried a different monitor and cord, and checked the display drivers for updates. Nothing worked and my computer will not detect the additional monitor.
On another note: My type c port stopped charging my laptop about a year ago. Is this a known issue for HP Envy laptops? Can someone help me?

Hi @kassieme,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're dealing with two separate issues. Let's tackle them one by one.
HDMI Port Not Working
Check Display Settings: Sometimes, the issue might be with the display settings. Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings. Click on Detect to see if the laptop can find the external monitor.
Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Go to Device Manager > Display adapters, right-click on your graphics card, and choose Update driver. Alternatively, you can visit the manufacturer's website (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) for the latest drivers.
Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, a Windows update can fix hardware issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
Hardware Issues: Since you've tried different cables and monitors, the issue might be with the HDMI port on the laptop itself. If possible, try connecting your laptop to a different external monitor or TV to rule out issues with the current monitor.
BIOS/UEFI Update: Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve hardware issues. Check HP's support website for any available BIOS updates for your model.
External Monitor as Primary Display: Try to set the external monitor as the primary display. Go to Display settings, select the external monitor, and choose Make this my main display.
Type-C Port Not Charging
Check the Charger and Cable: Ensure that the charger and cable are functioning properly. You mentioned it stopped charging about a year ago, so it's possible that the issue might be with the charger or cable itself.
Update Chipset Drivers: Outdated chipset drivers can sometimes affect charging capabilities. Go to Device Manager > System devices, right-click on USB Type-C, and select Update driver.
Check Power Settings: Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep and ensure that the power settings are configured correctly.
Inspect the Port: Look for any physical damage or debris in the Type-C port. Use a can of compressed air to clean it gently.
