Pavilion dv7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been trying to connect my HP Pavilion dv7 to a TV via the HDMI port.

What appears to be a very simple thing to do has become a nightmare. After trying four different HDMI cables and two different TVs, checking all their HDMI plugs, I am still unable to see anything on TV. The dv7

does not recognize at all that a TV is connected to it via an HDMI cable; it only sees one display - its own. The TV, on the other hand, recognizes that an HDMI cable is connected but claims to receive no content. I have run all Windows 10 updates, and checked that the dv7 has the latest driver for the AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series as well as Intel(R) HD Graphics display adapters.

Please, help!

@Panos_Ger

It is a very old machine. Please try to hit F4 to send signal to TV. Hope this helps.

Regards.

Thank you.

I had tried that already, and didn't work.

Sure it is an old laptop. But have the standards changed? Is there a new version of something that would now work? Is the machine supposed to work and it doesn't?

I had never before tried to connect the ds7 to a TV, so I don't know if this is a malfunction or if I am doing something wrong.

Somebody knows?

@Maccacj70 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are getting a no AMD card issue pop up message.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

Let's start off by updating the drivers using Windows update:

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the display drivers from the device manager:

Display drivers:

Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10

Select Device Manager.

Expand the entry. Right-click the problematic device and select the Uninstall device.

You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.

Now restart the computer and then update the Bios, and graphics card drivers from our HP support website, using this link.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the HP Support Assistant from the control panel and then reinstall the latest version.

Download and install the HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer to this link to know how to use the HP support assistant.

Let me know how that pans out,
