HDMI port not working after upgrading to Windows 11.  

Graphics display driver (dated 2018)  is "locked to manufacturer specifications" and cannot be upgraded to accommodate windows 11.

Microsoft support themselves updated all of my software and drivers, but they cannot get the HDMI port to work!!!  External display shows NO SIGNAL.

Hi:

 

Please see my knowledge base article at the link below for how to manually update the Intel graphics driver to the latest version.  This was the last driver released by Intel for the HD 620 graphics.

Thank you Paul!  Your instructions worked very well.  The driver updated from 2018 to 2022.  I have been working directly with Microsoft Tech support and this was the last thing they needed to try to get my HDMI port working.  

Unfortunately, the HDMI port is still not working so this is Microsoft conclusion:

 

"The only thing that can be tried is to update the driver. If it will not update or it is updated but does not fix the issue there is nothing else that can be done.  

If that does not work there is nothing else to be done. The conclusion would be that this system has a hardware incompatibility that is preventing an external monitor from being driving on Windows 11."

 

And my conclusion is that Windows 11 upgrade is nothing but a NIGHTMARE!!!

I previously spent months (literally) with tech support just getting Windows 11 working on my computer and now recently again spent much time trying to get the HDMI port working.  All to no avail !!!

Windows 11 has already cost me plenty and now its going to cost me a new computer, because the HDMI port is a necessity for me.  I work on complicated SOLID WORKS projects, and I need to use an external large monitor to easily view my work.

You can also go back to W10, and you may want to do that to rule out that the HDMI port went bad.

 

Have you tried a different HDMI cable?

 

If it has been less than 10 days since you upgraded to W11, you can easily go back by following the guidance at the link below.

 

How to Downgrade from Windows 11 to Windows 10 (howtogeek.com)

 

You can go back to W10 if it has been more than 10 days since you installed W11 by making a bootable USB recovery drive with the cloud recovery tool.

 

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.

I'm using the same graphics driver on my PC and have it connected with a display port to HDMI cable and W11 works fine for me, so it may be an issue with W11 and your specific model series notebook.

Yes, I have tried several known good working HDMI cables and several known good working monitors. Nothing works.  Although my laptop does acknowledge that the monitor is there:

BUT THE MONITOR ITSELF ONLY DISPLAYS "NO SIGNAL"

 

Microsoft tech support have also updated all software and also updated the BIOS.  The last thing I needed to do was to update the DISPLAY DRIVER which has now been done, but the same problem remains.  

 

Reverting back to Windows 10 sounds like another nightmare!  I might be better off just buying another PC.  But of course, that is probably what Microsoft intended!

As i stated above, my HDMI output was not working after upgrading to Windows 11.  I also stated that the HDMI output was a necessity for me because I do complicated projects with SOLIDWORKS and I need to view my work on an external large screen.  (and there is only one HDMI output on my laptop)

 

I have now found out (from you tube videos)  that a monitor output also exists in my USB-C connector which is something that no one ever talked about as an alternative.  I have now purchased a USB-C to HDMI adapter made by “REI” and it works absolutely fine!

 

This is just my opinion, but I think it is unfortunate that no one suggested an alternative solution to arrive at the same result needed, which was an external monitor output that already exists in my USB-C connector!
