Microsoft Windows 11

I have a situation here that obviously requires the replacing of the HDMI port, but I haven't researched on how hard this would be, because if the jack is uses tiny screws and a cable connector, well, that's a 10.00 fix. The jack is there, but the socket was pulled out. I was given this laptop from a friend.

The other alternatives is to use a docking station, but those are expensive LOL. And so  I've been confused and in a pickle to say the least. The video graphics card is an Intel Integrated UHD 620, which I read can support up to 3 external monitors. But USB to HDMI adapters exist on Amazon for as little as 10.00; the one I tried didn't even register in device manager and was supposedly a flash drive built into, for driver install, but the device was not detected, nor seen in the My computer window as removable storage.

That said, I found the same product for sale and found the website from frescologic; and initially tried a file I found from github, and this other program. That said, I have a USB 3.0 to HDMI cable, I have USB type C to HDMI and I have a portable monitor with HDMI and USB type C used for powering the monitor and video input from compatible devices.

And all of my USB ports are working correctly. As for that adapter, I had to send it back because it made a rattling noise and requested a replacement. The obvious there, is the device has to be detected when I plug it in, and install the correct drivers to thus use the adapter for video output. And the windows key +P is the short cut, because the setting has to be turned on, before the monitor is connected; and tested the portable monitor off of my thinkpad and it worked there (via HDMI).

Now Miracast works great from the HP but I do some editing and need two screens.

And so if the HP tech support people see this, I wanted to ask the initial question? What are the only other methods if at all, to connect a second monitor (other than an expensive docking station and miracast)?

Since the HDMI port is broke. The goal is to force the laptop to display the screen via a USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter dongle device. The driver section FYI on HP's website, are all for Windows 10, and no updates available for Windows 11. It almost seems like its a driver limitation.

Hello @Kalvis82 , how are you ?

There are some models that allow USB-c (Those little USBs) to generate an external image as well.

But there are models that really don't allow mirroring through these ports.

In your case, unfortunately, only HDMI would be mirroring.

Obviously, when a HDMI cable is connected. And fully aware that some devices output via USB C and some don't.

But I plan to test out external USB to HDMI adapter, that granted there's software/ drivers that are included on the device, or provided on the manufacturer website, to thus bypass the HDMI port and force it to route via USB.

Hello,

In this case, USB video drivers are enough to work.

But there may be incompatibility too. I hope you can get the requested adapter

Case closed folks

My replacement arrived from Amazon.  And by George it indeed has internal storage. It showed up, I installed the software and drivers. The laptop did a reboot..

I press the Windows key+P then connect the HDMI cable, and power, and initially it didn't work. However, when I started the software called Ms USB display it worked.

I'm tested the Wuawe 16 inch portable monitor from Temu that supports HDMI and USB C video output capable devices, abd this has two USB C ports as one is for charging

The software works in conjunction to the short cut menu settings

Hello @Kalvis82

Very good! I'm glad I was able to come up with an alternative that served you well!!

If you would like to mark it as a solution, we would appreciate it.

So others will use this as future research.
