HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-f1000 (508R7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

The HDMI Port is not working to use an external monitor that has an HDMI input. I have also tried using the Type C port and a HDMI adapter. I wasn't sure if I should flag this as hardware or if it could be a windows 11 issue with this model.

Things I have already tried:

- Verified there is no problem with the HDMI cable by plugging the monitor into another PC

- Obviously due to the above, verified that the monitor works (and the monitor is also HP 22cwa)

- Obviously due to the above, I made sure the HDMI cable is plugged all the way in to both ends.

- Swapping the HDMI cable anyway (and testing it with another computer)

- Going to the drivers page to download any updates

- Tried using a Type C to HDMI adapted, and I verified the adapter works with another PC to try plugging into the laptop's Type C port instead.

- Verify the Type C port works with other things

- Click Windows+P to make sure duplicate screen is selected

- Go to display settings and click detect another display. No other display is detected.

- Clicking the graphics components in devices and manually clicking to make sure drivers were updated

- Rebooted the laptop

Unfortunately my laptop just passed the one year warranty mark. I've never tried using the HDMI port before now. I would suspect it to be only the HDMI port, but that doesn't explain why I can't get the external monitor to work with a type C to HDMI adapter either.

adapter with displaylink from StarTech was needed as it apparently has something on the board in it that my other adapter did not. Unfortunately as I had mentioned, the HP monitor in question uses only HDMI, not DPD, so the solution in your response unfortunately would not have helped in this scenario. Hopefully the follow up is helpful in case someone else runs into the issue. Thank you for your time nonetheless

Hi @skatardrummer1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

"I understand that you're having trouble using an external monitor with your laptop's HDMI port, and I appreciate the detailed troubleshooting steps you’ve already taken. Since your HDMI port isn’t working and the Type-C to HDMI adapter also isn’t detecting the display, I’d like to provide some additional guidance.

Please note that the Type-C port on your laptop operates using DisplayPort format. This means that a standard Type-C to HDMI adapter may not work as expected. Instead, I recommend trying a Type-C to DisplayPort adapter for a better chance of compatibility.

Additionally, while you’ve already tested with a different HDMI cable, I’d suggest ensuring you’re using a high-quality or newer version HDMI cable, as older ones may sometimes cause connectivity issues.

Let me know if you need further assistance—I’m happy to help!"

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello, reddit solved the issue. I posted the link to the solution, but moderators removed it. Not very helpful for solution finding!! There was more info in the reddit post, but I edited my response (the accepted solution) to include what was needed.
