Product: HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000

Hi -i'm a complete novice to this so looking for some help please.  I've recently bought HP 15s-fq2037na laptop and tried to connect my two external monitors using a Dell hub/docking station. I was advised that the Dell docking station would be compatible, however, the laptop doesn't seem to recognise it(no lights on docking stations) - yet when I plug the same cable into my dell laptop - there is no issue and it works fine.  Should I have bought a HP Laptop thunderbolt. is my new laptop not able to accommodate external monitors? Any ideas please?
