HP Elite Dragonfly G2 Notebook PC (25W56AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!  I just got a Dragonfly G2 and updated all the BIOS and drivers except for HP Wireless Button Driver and Realtek HD Audio Driver which I do not expect to be the problem.

I am using a Dell 2718D monitor which has HDMI and USB-C inputs.  The USB-C input work with my MacBook Pro so I think the monitor and cable are OK.  However:

  1. When connecting directly from Dragonfly to Dell monitor, nothing is detected.
  2. When connecting through Anker USB-C hub, HDMI port from hub to monitor works.
  3. HDMI from Dragonfly directly to monitor works.
  4. I use a StarTech Displayport to USB-C cable with an older HP Elitebook G3 to connect to this same monitor and it works!  If I use the StarTech Displayport to USB-C cable with the Anker USB-C hub, the Dragonfly doesn't display anything on the monitor and I can't detect it but I can see the Advanced Display settings for the Dell monitor which is really weird!!!
  5. I've checked the BIOS and high resolution over Displayport alt mode is checked.

The only error I get is that "HP recommends using an HP power source" and "For full performance, connect a higher capacity power adapter".  I think that is because the monitor can only output 45W.

Any help would be really appreciated as HP has not been able to solve this.  HP wants me to send the laptop back for repairs but it took from June 2021 to Mar 2022 to get this laptop, I was hoping to find a fix instead of sending it back.  Given that HDMI works through the USB-C port, it seems to be something else?

Thanks!

Machine uses

  • HP Smart 65 W USB Type-C adapter OR
  • HP Smart 65 W Slim USB Type-C adapter
45W is too weak, you need at least 65W. Please use a right output wattage rating.
