Hi guys, my laptop's gpu stopped working last week or at least so i believe, video output from hdmi does not work, and task manager only recognizes Intel Iris graphics. I found some similar threads here were the 4060 was either faulty or the bios reverted the gpu back to intel integrated graphics, at the moment of writing i have checked the Bios and the 4060 is not detected, The bios update installed at the moment of writing is the F.20, my warranty ends in 7 days and since it is the holidays i am not sure if i will be able to **bleep**, if anyone has any ideas i would appreciate them. If possible i would appreciate suggestions that are less risky, i did consider downgrading the bios but since i need my laptop for work and the screen is still working with integrated graphics i decided against it.

Hi @Pachiot,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like your NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU is not being detected by your HP ENVY 16-inch Laptop, potentially due to a hardware failure or a BIOS/software issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue.
Check Device Manager:
- Open Device Manager and look under Display Adapters. If the RTX 4060 is listed with a warning icon, it might be a driver issue.
- If it’s missing entirely, it could be a hardware or deeper system issue.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter the HP Diagnostics menu.
- Run a hardware test for the GPU to check for failures.
Update/Reinstall NVIDIA Drivers:
- Uninstall current NVIDIA drivers via Device Manager or Programs and Features.
- Visit the NVIDIA website and download the latest drivers for the RTX 4060.
- Reinstall the drivers and restart the laptop.
Reset BIOS Settings:
- Enter BIOS during startup by pressing Esc and then F10.
- Restore BIOS settings to defaults, save, and exit.
- Check if the GPU appears in the BIOS afterward.
Advanced Steps:
Check BIOS Version and Compatibility:
- Ensure the installed BIOS version (F.20) is correct for your laptop model.
- If the issue began after the BIOS update, downgrading may help, but this carries some risk. Proceed cautiously.
Check Windows Power Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options, and ensure the system is set to "High Performance" or "Best Performance".
- Integrated graphics are sometimes prioritized in "Balanced" or "Power Saver" modes.

Run NVIDIA Control Panel:
- If the NVIDIA Control Panel is installed, open it and try to force the laptop to use the RTX 4060 for specific applications or globally.
External Display Check:
- Connect an external monitor to the HDMI port. If no output is detected, it further confirms the dedicated GPU may not be functioning.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
