I think my HDMI port died. I've tried multiple HDMI cables, PSU's and monitors and I get no signal at the monitor, even though my computer can identify a second display that's plugged in.
In the short term I'm trying to determine if my laptop's USB C port provides DisplayPort output. I'm getting mixed messages. I'm trying to determine what sort of adapter I need.
The User Guide link from this page says, "Connects a display device that has a USB Type-C connector,
providing DisplayPort output."
HP ENVY - 17t-bw000 CTO - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support
User Guide
However, the Maintenace and Service Guide doesn't mention Display Port output.
Can someone let me know if the USB C port does provide DisplayPort output, and also a recommendation for what kind of adapter I need?

Hi @Bud_Bass,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for reaching out regarding your HP ENVY 17t-bw000 CTO laptop. We understand your concerns with the HDMI port and the need to determine whether your system’s USB-C port supports video output.
After reviewing the specifications and official documentation, please note the following:
The USB-C and USB-A ports on your HP ENVY 17t-bw000 CTO only support data transfer and charging. They do not support video output (DisplayPort over USB-C).
This means that you cannot use a USB-C to HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA adapter to connect an external display through your USB-C port.
- HDMI port – This is the only video output option available on your system for connecting to an external monitor.
If your HDMI port is no longer functional, we recommend:
- Testing the HDMI port with another display and cable, which you mentioned you've already done.
- If the issue persists, the port may be physically damaged or experiencing a hardware failure.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the reply, but you are incorrect. I took a gamble yesterday and purchased a USB-C to HDMI adapter. Evidently the User Guide is correct (contrary to other sources), and the USB-C port does provide DisplayPort output. I have video output to my external monitor again. It works quite well. The only drawback that I can find so far is that I'm not able to take advantage of the NVidia graphics capabilities as I believe it only functions when using the HDMI port.
