I just bought a HP ENVY x360 15-fh0001na and it just arrived today, so after setting it up I was using the laptop to watch a tv show on Disney+.
Then all of a sudden the screen goes black and flickered for like 3 seconds and so I switched it off. After that I tried to turn it back on but even though the power button is on the screen stays blank. I tried BIOS troubleshooting, doing the f10 thing and the esc button thing as well (repeatedly pressing esc) but it still won't turn on.
When it turns on the laptop makes these weird noises sort of like a quieter version of someone washing shoes in a washing machine or like trying to jump-start a car.
Can someone help me cause I'm totally confused?

Hi @nUn_Traceable,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
It sounds like your new HP ENVY x360 15-fh0001na is experiencing some significant issues right out of the box. Since it's a new laptop, it should still be under warranty, and you can contact HP support for a repair. However, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try first:
1. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the laptop completely and unplug the power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect the power adapter and try turning on the laptop again.
2. External Monitor Test
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor using an HDMI cable to check if the issue is with the internal display.
- If the external monitor works, the problem is likely with the laptop's display.
3. Check for Loose or Damaged Cables
- Since the laptop is new, it might be unlikely, but if you're comfortable opening the laptop:
- Turn off the laptop and remove the back panel (usually requires a small Phillips screwdriver).
- Check if any cables, especially those connected to the display, are loose or improperly connected.
4. Reset the BIOS
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press and hold the Windows + B keys simultaneously, then press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds.
- Release the power button but continue holding the Windows + B keys until the BIOS recovery screen appears or you hear beeping sounds.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to recover the BIOS.
5. Disconnect External Devices
- Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, etc.) that might be interfering with the startup process.
Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @nUn_Traceable,
Please find the next set of steps below.
6. Run HP Diagnostics
- Turn off the laptop.
- Turn it on and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu appears.
- Run the comprehensive system test to check for hardware issues.
7. Listen to the Noises
- The "weird noises" could indicate a hardware issue. If it's a consistent sound, it might be the hard drive or another internal component failing.
- Hard Drive Check: If your laptop has an HDD, it could be making noise. SSDs typically don't make noise.
- Fan Noise: If it's the fan making noise, it could be an issue with cooling.
8. Battery Reset
- Some laptops have a battery reset pinhole that you can use to reset the internal battery.
- Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
- Look for a small pinhole on the bottom of the laptop (refer to your user manual).
- Use a paperclip to press and hold the reset button for 10-15 seconds.
- Plug the laptop back in and try turning it on.
Since the laptop is new, it's best to contact HP support directly. They can provide you with more options.
Summary of Steps:
- Perform a Hard Reset: Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- External Monitor Test: Check if an external display works.
- Check Internal Cables: Ensure all internal connections are secure.
- Reset the BIOS: Use the Windows + B keys and power button.
- Disconnect External Devices: Remove any peripherals.
- Run HP Diagnostics: Use the F2 key to access diagnostics.
- Listen to Noises: Identify the source of the noise.
- Battery Reset: Use a pinhole reset if available.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
