I have a HP EliteBook 840 G5 - Core i5-8350U - 16GB. I have plugged in one external monitor via the (one) HTMI port. It works well. Am I correctly informed (by our IT people) that this laptop can only manage one extrenal monitor (in addition to the notebook diplay), and not two external monitors (in addition to the notebook diplay).

I see when I look into the sytem control panel, under monitors/display, it shows an image of only two monitors to alter settings with.  I had falsely thought that if I had a HDMI adapter (splitter? I don't know what it's called, a wire that I could plug two monitor cables into), I could add a third monitor? It seems not

If this is impossible, which HP notebook can offer this as a possibility. I will buy that one instead. It's my only specification but I don't know what the specification is called. Can you suggest notebooks?

The HDMI splitter is a joke. If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

By the way if you wish more, please use HP USB-C G5 dock. You will get FULL single cable setup. I've been using this setup for my HP 840 G5 for few years now.

Thank you very much Banhien! One question, with the first option you suggest, would that mean that the notebook screen itself would work in addition to the two other monitors?

Many thanks

Clare
