Here is my work setup, my IT department cannot seem to find an answer.  I have HP Elitebook with Windows 10 (64 bit), 16 GB RAM, 2 HP 24" monitors, and an HP C type docking station. What happens about once a week is my monitors all of a sudden become disconnected they do not go black but show a colored striped pattern, and everything that I have open at the time gets moved over to the laptop.  I have my ethernet cable, the two monitors and a USB keyboard and mouse in the docking station. All items loose power. I have to pull the cable out of the laptop, give it about 10 seconds plug it back in, to restore my screens and my accessories.  I believe the docking station is going bad, but also think maybe the laptop cannot handle this type of connection through the C type cable.  Any ideas or answers would be great.

I don't know what is your notebook and HP dock. I'm using HP Elitebook 840 G5 and HP USB-C G5 dock right now and I can guaranty they work as designed 100%.

Regards.

Mine is an 830 G7 and docking is HSA-B005DS, I wonder if it is RAM, I am realizing it happens now when I have like ESPN or YouTube playing on an open screen and trying to work on larger Excel files.

I  believe the problem is firmware/software.  I can't find new firmware for the dock because it is discontinued
