Hi @RamonC

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when your touchpad vanishes from Device Manager and stops responding. You’ve already checked the status, and I appreciate the effort you’ve put in.

The Code 45 error means your HP Envy x360 laptop is not detecting the touchpad hardware, often due to a driver issue, power conflict, or a failed initialization. Let's walk through steps to restore touchpad functionality.

Step-by-Step: Restore Synaptics I2C HID Touchpad on HP Envy x360

Perform a Full Power Reset

  • Shut down the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and any peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and boot up.
  • This clears residual states that may block device detection.

Enable Touchpad in BIOS

  • Restart the laptop and press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
  • Ensure “Touchpad” or “Internal Pointing Device” is set to Enabled.
  • Save changes and exit.

Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

  • Visit HP Envy x360 Drivers and Downloads.
  • Enter your exact model (e.g., HP Envy x360 15-ee0000 series).
  • Download and install the latest BIOS update and Intel/AMD chipset drivers.
  • Restart your laptop after installation.

Reinstall Synaptics Touchpad Driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click the hidden Synaptics I2C HID Device.
  • Select “Uninstall device.”
  • Restart the laptop.
  • Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
  • If not, download it manually from the HP support page above.

Run HP App Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP App.
  • Go to Support > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Run the tool—it checks for missing drivers and hardware conflicts.

Check Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  • Install all available updates, including optional driver updates.
  • These updates often include touchpad compatibility fixes.

Disable Power Management Conflicts

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand “Human Interface Devices.”
  • Right-click Synaptics I2C HID Device > Properties > Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
  • This prevents the touchpad from being disabled during sleep or idle.

I did as instructed.  After doing the F10  taps  BIOS Setup Utility comes up with selections along the top with

Main  Security  Configuration Boot Options Exit

I see nothing about Avdanced anywhere and nothing about a Touchpad anywhere.

Where do I go next?

Thanks,

Ramon

Thank you for checking the BIOS layout and confirming what you see.

Since your HP Envy x360 BIOS does not show an “Advanced” tab or any mention of “Touchpad” or “Internal Pointing Device,” it’s likely that this model does not offer manual control over the touchpad from BIOS. That’s perfectly normal for many consumer Envy models.

Let’s move forward with steps that don’t rely on BIOS access.

Next steps to restore the touchpad

Run HP App – Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP App from your Start menu.
  • Select your device, then go to Support > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Run the tool to scan for missing drivers and hardware conflicts.
  • This tool is designed to detect devices like the Synaptics I2C HID even if they’re hidden.

Uninstall and reinstall the touchpad driver

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand “Human Interface Devices.”
  • Right-click Synaptics on I2C HID Device (even if it’s greyed out) and choose Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
  • If it doesn’t, download the driver manually from the HP Envy x360 Drivers and Software page.

Install chipset and I/O drivers

  • On the same HP support page, install the latest chipset driver and Intel Serial IO driver (or AMD equivalent).
  • These drivers help Windows communicate with embedded devices like the touchpad.

Check Windows Update

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  • Install all pending updates, especially optional driver updates.
  • Restart and test the touchpad again.

Create a new local user profile

  • Sometimes device detection issues are tied to user profile corruption.
  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
  • Add a new local user and sign in with that account.
  • Check if the touchpad works under the new profile.

Check for physical connection issues

  • If none of the above steps work, the touchpad ribbon cable may have loosened internally.
  • This would require careful inspection by a technician to reseat the cable.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
