Starting on 4/9/21 my laptop touchscreen was not working. The last time I installed updates was 4/2/21. I checked the system and no updates are available. After troubleshooting I went to the Device Manager. The HID touchscreen was not visible but I was able to find it after going to View->show hidden devices. I received an error code 45 Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. I tried to disable and enable the driver but it did not work. I then uninstalled the driver. When I restarted my computer the driver is now entirely gone. Even when I show hidden devices the driver is no longer present. Additionally, when I am in settings in About I am now told "There is no pen or touch input available for this device". A touchscreen does not miraculously disappear overnight.
- I went to the HP site to try to re-download the driver, however, when I allowed the system to detect my device the resulting list of drivers it provides does not contain the touchscreen driver.
- Using the HP Hardware Diagnostic software under component tests I do not even have the option to test the touchscreen. I can test the touchpad but there is no option for touchscreen.
- Also, using HP Support Assistant I am told that all devices and drivers are up to date.
- I downloaded BIOS and restarted my computer but this had not made any changes to the driver (or lackthereof)
How do I fix this to get my touchscreen back?
