HP ENVY Laptop PC 17-ce2055cl

My HP Envy laptop touchscreen display is overly sensitive. When playing say the NYT spelling bee, if I intend to enter ONE letter, often 2 or 3 (of same character) letters will be displayed

My net searches have led to "recalibrate" - which I have done with no performance change. I have also physically cleaned my display screen. I have verified that I have the latest Win 10 updates and most current display driver

How can I reduce the touchscreen sensitivity ?

Hi @ct_dave,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your HP ENVY 17-ce2055cl laptop's touchscreen is overly sensitive, especially when it affects simple tasks like typing a letter in a game or form.

You've already taken the right steps:

  • Recalibrated the screen
  • Cleaned the surface
  • Updated Windows and display drivers

Let’s now focus on what you can do within HP and Windows settings, even though touchscreen sensitivity options are limited in the default Windows controls.

Steps to Reduce Touchscreen Sensitivity

1. Check for Touchscreen Driver Updates

Even if Windows says your drivers are up to date, it's best to manually install the latest from HP:

  • Go to the HP Drivers Page for your model.
  • Download and install the latest:
    • Intel Integrated Sensor Solution Driver
    • Intel HID Event Filter Driver
    • Touchscreen or Display Driver (if listed)

2. Disable Pen and Touch Input Gestures (Optional)

  • Go to Control Panel > Pen and Touch.
  • Under the Touch tab, disable or adjust settings like “Enable press and hold for right-click”.
  • This can reduce accidental multi-touch inputs.

3. Adjust Touch Keyboard Settings

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Typing.
  • Scroll down to Touch keyboard and disable “Show the touch keyboard when not in tablet mode” if not needed.

4. Try an Older Touchscreen Driver

Some users have resolved sensitivity issues by rolling back to an earlier driver version:

  • Open Device Manager > Human Interface Devices.
  • Right-click HID-compliant touch screen → Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver (if available).
  • If not, you can try downloading an older version from the Windows Update Catalog.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I just followed all of the suggested steps, and my touchscreen "sensitivity" issue seems to be resolved. As I followed all steps, including  the optional one, I am unsure which one led to that problem resolution

Thanks, for ending a MOST annoying touchscreen issue = ct_dave

Hi @ct_dave,

You're very welcome—I'm truly glad to hear your touchscreen issue is resolved! 🎉

It’s understandable that, after following multiple steps (especially including the optional ones), it’s hard to pinpoint exactly which one did the trick. What matters most is that your device is now functioning the way it should, without the annoying touchscreen sensitivity problem interfering.

If the issue ever returns, feel free to reach out again, and we can isolate the likely fix together. In the meantime, enjoy the smoother performance on your laptop!

Thanks again for the kind words—it means a lot!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
