First HP laptop and after less than 2 years, the left hinge has broken. I have kept this laptop on my desk for the last few weeks and have never used it in tablet mode during this time. Upon opening the lid up this morning, I heard a crack and noticed the left hinge had separated from the screen. The laptop will not close. Luckily the computer is working fine (until who knows when), but this seems to be a recurring issue for many people with this laptop. As I'm about a year out of warranty, I wonder if HP will acknowledge that this is a manufacturing issue and fix it without charging an outrageous price as I've read in other posts. I am going back to school in a few weeks, and it's crazy that a hinge breaks loose while it's literally sitting on a desk (it's summer vacation). Hopefully the company owns up to this, since it's clearly a design issue. A hinge shouldn't break off an $800 laptop after only 2 years of use. Definitely will never buy another HP laptop or product again, as they are a terrible option for students who need a functional laptop that'll last more than a couple of years.
