I'm trying to connect my laptop to a mobile, fold-up triple monitor extender.

The left side will not work when plugged into HDMI or USB. It comes on briefly to say "S2" then "no signal" then "go to power saving" and then it goes black.  I've made sure my display is set to extend, and used a power adapter  when the monitors are attached. The right side works just fine (it's plugged into the C-port. ) When I plug the left side into the C port, it works. Does this mean my HDMI and USB ports don't support this device? Is there such thing as a multi-C port adapter or USB to C "splitter" of some kind that would make this work?

Hi @amyc1110,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue where the left monitor on your Allvia S2 Triple Screen Extender isn't being properly recognized or powered when connected via HDMI or USB, but it works fine when plugged into a USB-C port. Here’s a breakdown of what might be happening and some potential solutions.

Possible Issues

  • Port Limitations: Your HDMI and USB ports might not be fully compatible with the extender. Sometimes HDMI ports on laptops have limitations on the resolution or the number of external displays they can support.
  • Driver or Software Issues: There might be a driver or software issue with the HDMI or USB ports. Ensure all drivers are up-to-date.
  • Power Supply: Even though you are using a power adapter, there could be an issue with how power is being distributed to the monitors.

Solutions

Check HDMI and USB Ports:

  • Ensure that the HDMI and USB ports are functioning properly by testing them with other devices.
  • Check if there are any specific settings or drivers needed for the HDMI and USB ports to support external displays.

Update Drivers:

  • Update your graphics card drivers and any drivers related to USB and HDMI ports from HP website.

Multi-C Port Adapter or Splitter:

  • You can use a USB-C hub or docking station that supports multiple displays. This would bypass the need to use HDMI or USB directly for the extender. Ensure that the hub or docking station supports triple monitor setups.

Try Different Configurations:

  • Test connecting the left monitor to different HDMI and USB ports on your laptop to rule out port-specific issues.
  • Experiment with different cables to ensure there isn't a cable issue.

Check Extender Specifications:

  • Verify that the Allvia S2 Triple Screen Extender supports connections through the HDMI and USB ports in the manner you are using them. Sometimes extenders have specific requirements for ports and connection types.

Use a USB-C Hub with HDMI:

  • If you don’t already have one, consider getting a USB-C hub that includes HDMI outputs. This can help you bypass issues with the HDMI and USB ports on your laptop by using USB-C, which is working for you.

By troubleshooting these aspects, you should be able to determine if your HDMI and USB ports are indeed causing the issue or if a different setup might be required.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
