HP Envy x360 15-aq100 CTO
I need to hook up dual monitors. I can run one into my HDMI port but that's the only HDMI port that I have. The other port I can use would be the USB-C port but I have tried several times with different monitors and different cables and it's as if this computer does not recognize anything coming out of this port.
Why doesn't the USB-C port recognize any monitors or even my television? I have tried running an HDMI to USB-C cable into these peripherals but none of them work.
Do I have to use a docking station? If so, which one?
What is the USB-C port for anyway if it won't recognize any of these devices?
Very frustrated and angry with HP...

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂
Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.
I understand that you would like to connect the second monitor to the USB type C port of your HP ENVY 15-aq100 x360 Convertible laptop. I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting this issue and have certainly done a good job.You have done a remarkable job in troubleshooting this issue.
Meanwhile, during my research on this issue and found if the USB C type port is a thunderbolt port then it can be used to connect external displays. The USB C type port which is thunderolt capable looks as shown in the below image:
If the thunderbolt (lightening logo) is missing then it may not be able to support an external screen.
I hope this information helps. Let me know. Cheers! 🙂

Glad to have you back.
The USB type C port on your laptop can be used for charging and data transfer.
Only a USB type C thunderbolt port can charge, perform data transfer and display on external monitor.
Hope this answers your question.
Cheers! 🙂

You're welcome.
I'm afraid, I do not see an option to connect a second monitor with your HP ENVY 15-aq100 x360 Convertible laptop.
There is only one VGA port and no other ports (VGA, thunderbolt, display port etc.) that support a second display.
Cheers!

Hey I know this an old post but in case any one else comes across this while dealing with the same issue...another option is to connect to another laptop (or any wireless display) and use that as a second monitor
