Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!
HP Recommended

Hi new laptop owner here. Got my laptop this month (August). I noticed that when the laptop is used for a long period of time the screen flickers or blinks. Anyone here experiencing screen flickers or blinks when used for a long time? Its not a continuous flicker though but sometimes it can be destructing when you are focused on the screen. I thought an update would fix the issue but it still happen from time to time. Hope anyone can help me here.

Hi @Savee23,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for sharing that. Screen flickering on a brand-new HP laptop can be distracting, especially when you're trying to stay focused. Since you've already tried updating the system and the issue persists, here are some targeted steps to help resolve it:

1. Update Graphics Drivers

2. Disable Hardware Acceleration

  • In apps like Chrome or Edge:
    • Go to Settings > System.
    • Turn off “Use hardware acceleration when available”.
    • Restart the browser.

3. Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install all pending updates.
  • Also check Optional Updates for display-related drivers.

4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

5. BIOS Update

  • Sometimes, flickering is caused by outdated firmware.
  • Visit HP’s support page for your laptop model and install the latest BIOS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
