My HP Compaq LA2206x monitor has VGA and HP Display port outs-NO HDMI. I connected a Display port cable to Display port out. Because my HP Spectre only has HDMI, I connected via HDMI to Display port adapter. Monitor menu keeps saying NO signal for all 3 options.
And I get nothing. Have downloaded latest driver software but monitor does not even show up as an option in the Settings/Dispaly menu.
When I connect it to my old HP laptop with the W 10 upgrade it works fine. What's the problem here?

According to specs on the laptop you have a USB-C port and also a mini-DP port. The USB-C does not say it carries a video signal so I am going to assume it does not but your laptop has a DP port.
See Item 4
You just need a mini-DP to regular DP adapter.

They make a ton of x360s. Go into HP Support Assistant and get the Product No. The method to my madness is to see if it has a USB-C port that has Alt-DP signal. If so a USB-C to DP will work perfectly. HDMI output to DP input just does not work in most instances. Specs of the monitor say it has a DVI in port and HDMI works well adapted to DVI. DVI is HDMI minus audio.
