HP OMEN 15 - dc0051nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello Everyone,

I am currently running into the following screen issues:

Distorted_Screen_04.05.2020.pngDistorted_Screen_04.05.2020p2.png

I've been trying to figure out whether it was a refresh rate issue or something more. It can occur when locking my screen while waiting 10 minutes and unlock to have it happen to both my laptop screen and external screen. After this has happened, I simply move it around and 90% of the time it is fixed.

In addition, I recently updated my hp omen laptop with software updates such as windows 10 1909, Nvidia gtx 1060 drivers, and fixing the corrupted windows32.exe. All of these still don't help the problem.

Has anyone run into something like this? If so, what did you do to fix it?

I look forward to anyone's response and I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Thank You,

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time it worked without these issues?
  • Have you updated Graphics and Chipset drivers?

let’s try these steps to resolve the problem:

I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting,

If the issue persists in the BIOS screen which is outside windows, it would confirm a hardware failure.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Echo_Lake,

I hope your day is going well!

Regarding your response, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the graphic drivers for the GTX 1060 6 GB.

In addition, I went to the BIOS and found no problems with the screen. However, recently there were two 0502 errors. But I haven't received them since I fixed upgrading my RAM from 16 GB to 32 GB.

I would like to keep this laptop for years to come, but I'm noticing that this screen error is recurring and still goes away after moving the screen.

I look forward to your guidance and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Thank You!

Thank you for posting back.

I would suggest performing system factory reset will put the computer back to the original factory settings in this way all corrupted and outdated software will be removed.

While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows )You can also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties: www.hp.com/contacthp/

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Echo_Lake,

I appreciate your response!

When it is convenient, I wanted to know what the next steps are after the factory reset?

In addition, I will be contacting hp support to walk through this reset in the nearby future. Unfortunately, I can't do this within the next two weeks since I'm in graduate school and this is my only working laptop.

I look forward to your response, and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Thank You!

If your experience same display issue after system factory recovery then you need to service the computer in order to fix the issue.

Keep me posted for further assistance.
