Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!

Good Evening,

A couple months ago I asked a question about my laptop screen repeatedly dimming while it is on and that the only way to see the display was to shine a torch over it. Well the problem decided to come back, and I am not sure why. The Bios is updated and I also ran hardware diagnostics which said there are no problems however, nothing seem's  to be working.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
  • When was the last time it worked fine?

let’s try these steps to resolve the problem:

I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting,

If the issue persists in the BIOS screen which is outside windows, it would confirm a hardware failure.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Welcome to HP support community.

  1. Increase the display brightness and check if that fixes the issue:
  2. Open the Start Menu.
  3. 2. Click the gear icon to bring up the Settings Menu.
  4. Choose System
  5.  Select Display.
  6. Uncheck change brightness automatically and increase the brightness by dragging the bar.

I hope that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

Sorry for my late reply, I've been a bit busy the past month. The solution did not work, and it persists as the computer loads up. I've ran hardware diagnostics and everything passed so I am not exactly sure why this is happening.

Thanks for your assistance on this matter.

Good Morning,

It appears to be a hardware failure, just wasn’t sure as it would sometimes turn on and off. Thanks for the help!
