Good morning everyone.
I've been trying to solve this long-standing problem for a long time. After updating my video drivers, the mouse stutters, but only when I connect the second monitor via HDMI. I've tried all the old and new drivers from the AMD website, but the problem persists.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi @Peppo068,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding mouse stuttering with the second HDMI monitor on the HP Pavilion laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Connection and Hardware:
- Ensure the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the laptop and the monitor. Try using a different HDMI cable if possible.
- Verify that the second monitor is functioning correctly by testing it with another device.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Although you've tried updating your drivers, make sure you have the latest version installed through Windows Update or the HP Support website rather than manually from AMD. This ensures compatibility with your HP device.
- Access HP drivers here.
Configure Display Settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
- Ensure that the resolution and refresh rate settings for both monitors are set properly. Consider lowering the resolution or refresh rate on the second monitor to see if it improves performance.
Cursor Settings:
- In the mouse properties, check the pointer options to make sure no settings are causing interference with multi-monitor setups.
Disable Hardware Acceleration:
- Some applications or background processes may utilize hardware acceleration, which can be problematic when multiple displays are connected. Disable hardware acceleration in any active software, such as browsers, to see if this resolves the issue.
Change Power Settings:
- Go to “Control Panel” > “Power Options” and select a high-performance plan. This might help improve performance.
Monitor Scaling:
- Ensure that the scaling settings on the monitor are set to 100% to minimize display lag.
BIOS Update:
- Check if there's a BIOS update available on the HP Support website that might resolve compatibility issues with connected monitors.
Check Task Manager:
- Open Task Manager to see if any system processes or applications are consuming excessive resources and causing performance drops.
I hope this helps.
