HP Pavilion 15-cc101na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

Appreciate there are lots of questions on this, but I'm finding it tricky to nail down the exact answer for my latop...

I want to extend my laptop display to two additional monitors. I was hoping I could do this with one displaying through the HDMI port and another through the USB-C port. I've bought an Anker USB-C to HDMI adaptor however nothing happens when I plug it in. Do I need another type of adaptor or is this just a non-starter? I was really hoping that buying a laptop with a USB-C would mean I could extend the display to two external monitors!!

Model is: HP Pavilion 15-cc101na

Thanks

Westy

Unfortunately, there is much confusion over what a USB 3.1 Type-C port can and cannot do.

Your notebook has a  USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s) Type-C  and 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Data transfer only) ports. Neither is  published as being capable of video transfer.  See the user guide for your notebook  on page 11 and 12.

Video transfer through type -C ports is to date , limited to USB 3.1 Gen 2 with DisplayPort over type-C ports. Your notebook does not have that type of Type-C port.  Look for the superspeed + logo with a 10. That indicates Gen 2. If it has a + it is capable of power delivery as well to an external device.

I have a generic type-c to HDMI adapter that worked well on my previous HP Spectre  envy 13 and x360 product loans. I connected them to my HDTV  with an HDMI* cable without any issue. If I were you, I would  return the Anker adapter and try a generic version instead.
