Hi @Salty80,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your external monitor is not connecting to your HP Pavilion 15z-EC200, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:
1. Check Physical Connections:
- Ensure the Cable is Secure: Check that the cable connecting your monitor to the laptop is firmly plugged in at both ends.
- Try a Different Cable or Port: If possible, try a different cable (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) or a different port on your laptop to rule out a faulty cable or port.
2. Detect the Display Manually:
- Windows 11:
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
- Scroll down to Multiple displays and click on Detect. This forces Windows to search for the external monitor.
- Windows 10:
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
- Scroll down to Multiple displays and click Detect.
3. Check Display Settings:
- Make sure your laptop is set to extend or duplicate the display rather than showing only on one screen.
- Under Display settings, ensure that the monitor is set to "Extend" or "Duplicate" if you want to use it as an additional display.
4. Update or Roll Back Graphics Drivers:
- Update Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select it).
- Expand the Display adapters section.
- Right-click your graphics card and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software and follow the prompts.
- Roll Back Drivers:
- If your monitor was working previously but stopped after a recent update, you might want to try rolling back the driver.
- In Device Manager, right-click the graphics card, select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and choose Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Salty80,
Please find the remaining steps.
5. Check Monitor Settings:
- Make sure the external monitor is set to the correct input (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort) using the monitor's on-screen menu.
- Try connecting the monitor to another device (like another laptop or desktop) to ensure the monitor itself is working properly.
6. Restart Both Devices:
- Restart both your laptop and the external monitor. Sometimes, simply rebooting can resolve connection issues.
7. Test in Safe Mode:
- Boot your laptop into Safe Mode to see if the external monitor is detected. This can help determine if a third-party application or service is causing the issue.
8. BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- In some rare cases, you may need to check your BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure that external displays are enabled. Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 during startup to enter the BIOS, and check the display settings.
9. Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure your Windows operating system is fully updated, as updates often include fixes for hardware compatibility issues.
10. Try Another Monitor or Laptop:
- If possible, try connecting another monitor to your laptop or connecting the same monitor to a different laptop. This can help isolate whether the issue is with the monitor or the laptop.
If you've tried all these steps and the external monitor is still not connecting, there may be a hardware issue with the laptop's display output. In this case, you may need to contact HP phone support for further assistance.
