HP Pavilion 27xi 27-inch Diagonal IPS LED Backlit Monitor

(there doesn't seem to be a board for display issues)

I have a 6 year old HP 27xi.  It has been off line for about six months, but was working fine prior to that.  Yesterday, when I tried to set it up as the second display for my Lenovo Thinkpad, the resolution was very poor.  Graphics resolution is very low and text is broken up.  The letters seem incomplete.  This applies to menu text, data entered, and application text at the bottom of the screen.

My older 23" HP monitor works fine on the same laptop and HDMI video port.

Here's what I've tried:

  • switched HDMI cables
  • tried an HDMI to DVI cable
  • switched HDMI ports on the laptop from internal to external on a hub (and back)
  • played with resolution in Windows settings (max value of 1920 x 1080 selected)  BTW, when I down-scale the resolution in settings, same problem exists)
  • updated the monitor driver
  • verified the NVIDIA graphics card driver is the current version

Any thoughts you have on this would be appreciated.  I used to really like this monitor.

I forgot: I also reset the monitor to factory settings.
