I have a HP Pavilion dv6t-6b00 Laptop. I recently added some programs that are not working properly because of not having OpenGl 2.0.

When I went to check my Device Manager Display Adapters, I notice that I have 2 graphic profiles. Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 7400M Series.

I wanted to specify using the AMD Radeon on the new programs, since the Intel(R) Graphics does not have OpenGL available.  When I tried to access AMD Control Center, I received this message. "AMD Catalyst Control Center Cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD Catalyst Control Canter"

When I went to check the drivers I noticed ther AMD had none installed.  When I try to update the driver it says that it has one already installed, yet when I go back to check it says it has not. How do I resolve this issue?

Thank you in advance.

Hi @NascarT-A,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Which version of Windows are you currently running ?
  • Have you recently updated your operating system or BIOS?
  • Do you recall if the AMD drivers were ever installed and working previously, or is this the first time you’re setting them up?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try in the meantime:

  1. Uninstall and Reinstall Drivers
    • Go to Device Manager, right-click on the AMD Radeon HD 7400M, and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your laptop, then download and install the latest AMD Mobility drivers directly from AMD’s official support site.
  2. Check HP Support Drivers
    • Visit the HP Support page for your Pavilion dv6t-6b00 model and download the recommended graphics drivers. Sometimes HP-customized drivers work better with switchable graphics setups.
  3. Switchable Graphics Settings
    • Since your laptop has both Intel HD Graphics and AMD Radeon, ensure that the AMD card is set as the preferred GPU for your applications. This is usually managed through the Catalyst Control Center once the drivers are correctly installed.
  4. Windows Update
  • Run Windows Update to ensure your system has the latest patches, as missing updates can sometimes prevent drivers from functioning correctly.

Please note: HP’s support for OpenGL is limited, as OpenGL is a platform maintained by graphics vendors (Intel/AMD). We can help ensure your drivers are correctly installed and your hardware is functioning, but specific OpenGL compatibility depends on the AMD driver package itself.

I hope this helps.
