I'm trying to connect a second monitor to my HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cs3065cl. first one is via HDMI. I bought a USB-C to DisplayPort cable, but it does not work. I've found some research regarding DisplayPort Alternate Mode. Ive also seen some mention that my laptop USB-C does not support video. Any thoughts? If it doesn't, how could I hook up a second monitor?

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06459259
It has 1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port. You can't connect it to a monitor. If you wish to have 2 or more external monitors (and notebook monitor - total 3), please enter your requirement on the following link and it will find for you few USB-A DisplayLink Certified options on market today including some HP products (you can select HP before Search)

I agree that the USB-C is USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-CTM (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate), but isn't the USB-A USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (Data Transfer Only)? if the USB-A is also Data Transfer Only, how will any of these docking stations work? Do I specifically want one that's USB-A, or would a USB-C one work? If both are Data Transfer Only, how does one work but the other doesn't? thanks
