HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg0000 (9WF74AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Sudden change in 4K monitor support since June 15 2023 – screen size incorrect but only using built-in HDMI port.

All OK using USB-C to HDMI adaptor and the existing HDMI cable.

HDMI port is OK with 1920x1080 scale 125%

4K monitor has always been 3840x2160@60Hz, but this no longer works UNLESS USB_C to HDMI is used.

Suggested diagnosis – HDMI port is starting to fail.

These is no email number for warranty assistance – social media I.E WhatsApp and Messages not responding at weekend.

Seems its a poor show to remove weekend support altogether.

Thanks for reading

Hi @Herod,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing sudden screen size errors on your HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eg0xxx and you're using the built-in HDMI port, there are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check display settings: Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings" from the context menu. Make sure the resolution is set to the recommended value for your 4K screen (usually 3840x2160 or similar). If it's already set correctly, try changing it to a different resolution temporarily and then revert back to the recommended resolution.
  • Update graphics drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can sometimes cause display issues. Visit the official HP support website and search for the drivers specifically designed for your model. Download and install the latest graphics drivers, then restart your laptop to see if the problem persists.
  • HDMI cable and connection: Ensure that the HDMI cable you're using is in good condition and securely connected to both your laptop and the external display. Try using a different HDMI cable or connecting to a different display if possible, to rule out any potential cable or display issues.
  • Windows updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes, system updates can include fixes for display-related issues.
  • Restart your laptop: A simple restart can often resolve temporary software glitches that may be causing the screen size error. Try restarting your laptop and check if the issue persists afterwards.

If none of the above steps resolve the problem, it's possible that there may be a hardware issue with either the HDMI port or the laptop's graphics card.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
