HP Pavilion dv6-3236nr
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I was given a dv6 by a friend recently to reset and sell. I was finishing resetting it and for some reason the built in screen just stopped working. I can  connect an external display via HDMI or VGA, but that only works once Windows boots. I tried a Linux Mint Live USB, but as suspected, it also returns the same results as booting from the HDD. Does anyone have any ideas why the screen would stop working?

Thanks,

LeM5

@LeM5 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the internal display is not working.

As you have stated that you have already checked with an external display.

I would suggets you contact our phone support and check for the support option. They will help you.

Or you can contact the local service center for repair.

Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.

1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

We are experiencing longer than expected wait times to reach an agent due to the CoViD-19 impact and there might have been issues in you getting the expected resolution on the issue.

Thanks Praveen196 for the reply,

The solution for me was to take the laptop apart and unplug the cable going to the display, power on the laptop while taken apart with the external display connected, shut down the laptop once Win 7 loaded and then re-plug the display cable in. Once completed I then reassembled the laptop. The screen is working again.

Thanks again,
